Global Business Power subsidiary receives DOE approval for grid study

A grid impact study on Global Luzon Energy Development Corporation’s 670-megawatt coal-fired power project in Luna, La Union has been approved by the Department of Energy.

The study on the two-unit 335 MW coal power generating facility in Barangay Cariaquis and Nalvo Sur in Luna, La Union province is for the company to determine the impact of the coal project to Luzon’s transmission network.

The Global Business Power Corp. subsidiary has signed a power sales agreement with the Manila Electric Co. (MERALCO) for 600-MW supply from the plant. The Meralco PowerGen Corp. owns 14% stake in Global Business Power.

“Yes, (it’s our first power project in Luzon). Construction is third quarter 2018 and operation first quarter 2022,” Rolando Bacani, Global Business Power president said in previous reports.

Global Business Power has power plants located in Cebu, Iloilo, Aklan and Mindoro and is one of Visayas’ leading independent power producers.

Global Luzon Energy Development Corporation is now controlled by the First Pacific Co. Ltd.
