Ewpopi to construct dedicated transmission facility for gas plant

A go-signal was given to the Energy World Power Corporation Philippines Inc. (Ewpopi) to develop a transmission facility that will connect its 650-megawatt gas plant to the planned Pagbilao substation.

In a report by Business Mirror, the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) gave Ewpopi the authority to develop and own a point-to-point limited facility that will connect its combined cycle natural gas-fired power to the Luzon grid provided that the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) will maintain and operate the facility.

The transmission facility is expected to cost around Php 694 million.

Ewpopi is also constructing the gas plant in Pagbilao, Quezon. In order to dispatch the power from the plant, it would need to create a dedicated point-to-point transmission facility to connect it to NGCP’s Pagbilao substation which is also set to be constructed.

With that scenario, ERC also approved that the proposed project will be constructed through an interim connection that will cut-in along Naga-Tayabas 500 kilovolt (kV) line. The said connection will be utilized until the new Pagbilao substation is completed.
