DOE awards 5 hydro contracts to Citicore Power

The Department of Energy (DOE) has authorized Citicore Power Inc. (CPI) to proceed with the pre-development stage of its five proposed hydropower projects in Southern Luzon.

This stage covers permitting and conducting various studies for the contracts that have a combined capacity of 2,300 megawatts (MW). Pre-development work is expected to take between three to five years for each hydro facility.

“Citicore Power saw an opportunity to develop clean energy from renewable sources that will invigorate the country’s energy mix. Through the projects, the company aims to provide an answer to the increasing demand of power in the Philippines,” CPI Executive Vice-President for Commercial and Development Operations Manolo T. Candelaria said in a statement.

“Through the projects, the company aims to provide an answer to the increasing demand for power in the Philippines,” he added.

Citicore is looking to install 1,000 M of capacity from renewable energy sources such as biomass, hydropower, solar and wind.

Apart from these five hydro contracts, the company also has three large-scale solar farms in Bataan, Cebu, and Negros Occidental.
