Power plants owned by the Energy Development Corporation (EDC) in Leyte remains un-operational following the damaged caused by a 5.9 magnitude earthquake that hit the province on Thursday, July 6, 2017.
In a statement released by EDC on Saturday, the first unit of the Tongonan Geothermal Power Plant Unit 1 is still shut down due to the damage in its cooling tower.
The second unit, however, may become operational after tests on the main transformer are done as well as the repairing of the cooling tower.
Meanwhile, the cooling tower of the third unit of the Malitbog power plant also remains un-operational. While its first and second unit, which generates around 150 MW of power, is estimated to go online in seven to 10 days.
The Upper Mahiao plant is also expected to go online between five to seven days. The plant contributes 132 MW of power to the grid.
EDC is eyeing to restore 317 MW of power in Leyte within the next 10 days.
Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Alfonso Cusi conducted an inspection of the facilities together with EDC president Richard Tantoco.
