Former Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Kim Henares was elected as an independent director of Basic Energy Corporation.

In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange, Basic Energy said that Henares will be taking over the position from former Philippine National Oil Company President Eduardo Manalac, who along with two directors resigned on Wednesday.

Henares, who served as BIR Commissioner under the administration of former Pres. Benigno Aquino III, will be sitting as a member of the board’s audit, risk, and corporate governance committees.

Basic Energy recently got the Department of Energy’s approval to develop a 50-megawatt wind farm in Mabini, Batangas.

Last Tuesday, Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation announced that another ex-government official in retired Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Gov. Amando Tetangco, Jr. will join the firm, also as an independent director.
