The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has expanded its Eastern Visayas transmission line network by adding a major transmission line and upgrading two substations.

NGCP has finished Line 2 of the Ormoc-Babatngon 138 kV transmission line, which was considered to be an important addition to the Eastern Visayas line portfolio.

The line was energized in December, aiding to the power delivery in the Leyte and Samar provinces.

According to NGCP, the additional second circuit would help the areas receive more reliable and prolonged electricity and power interruptions would be reduced or avoided altogether. Before the energization of the newly added line, it was originally a single circuit which makes it more susceptible to planned or unplanned power outages, agency said.

The Ormon-Babatngon line is currently catering to five customers, including:  the Leyte Electric Cooperative, Inc. II (LEYECO II), Samar Electric Cooperative Inc. I and II (SAMELCO I and II), Eastern Samar Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ESAMELCO), and Northern Samar Electric Cooperative, Inc. (NORSAMELCO), which cover parts of Leyte and the provinces of Samar, Eastern Samar, and Northern Samar.

“It is part of NGCP’s commitment to continually upgrade and improve the country’s transmission network, especially with the increasing demand for power year on year. The energization of the second circuit of the Ormoc-Babatngon 138kV transmission line will greatly benefit our customers in Eastern Visayas. Our customers can be assured that we are working on more projects to improve our network nationwide and deliver quality services to our people,” NGCP was quoted in a Manila Bulletin report.
