Marikina City, Wyeth among big winners in Meralco K-Ligtas Awards


The city of Marikina is the local government unit (LGU) – city awardee for its community electrification project that assures public safety and security at the 2nd Meralco K-Ligtas Awards.

Joining Marikina City in the lineup of awardees are Wyeth Philippines, Inc., Nexperia Philippines Inc., and other organizations and businesses.

Marikina was awarded for its Marikina Community Electrification Project (MARCEP) program that provides legal electrical connection and individual electric meters in households, eliminates illegal connections, and provides metered streetlights in the area.

Meanwhile, Industrial Businesses Wyeth Philippines, Inc. Canlubang Factory and Nexperia Philippines, Inc. were awarded for their electrical safety and overall safety practices.

This is the first time two companies were awarded in a single category in K-Ligtas awards.

“Our focus is the safety of our people. We regard our people as our main asset so we spend a lot of money, time, training in order to ensure their safety inside our factory.” Jig Isidro, Managing Director for Wyeth Philippines Inc. said.

The Municipality of Carmona has been awarded for the LGU-Municipality category. Shangri-la’s Hotel Jen and Rohm & Haas Philippines, Inc., were awarded for Commercial category and Small Industrial Category, respectively.

A special citation was given to the Kalayaan National High School in Pasay City for its commitment to safety and security for its students and faculty.

Now on its second year, K-Ligtas awards had a total of 21 nominees in six categories, all of which were assessed by the awards committee.

“These awards have a noble intent of seeking to create awareness and promote the strong culture of electrical safety management,” K-Ligtas Awards Chairperson Engr. Antonio Abuel said.

Present at the event was Department of Energy Undersecretary Felix Fuentebella, who expressed support for electrical safety in the country.

“The DOE shares the same goal of giving recognition to organizations and businesses that promote electrical safety in the workplace,” he said.
