The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) announced a slight increase for this month’s electricity rates, from last month’s P 10.1925 per kWh to P 10.2190 per kWh.

A typical household consuming 200 kWh will have around P 5 adjustment in their bill.

Generation charge for this month upped to P 5.3491 per kWh, which was previously P 5.2651 per kWh.

A P 0.6554 per kWh rise in the cost of energy from Power Supply Agreements (PSAs) contributed to the slight increase for this month’s electricity bill. This is due to lower average plant dispatch and higher fuel prices.

The total share of Meralco’s PSA purchases this month was 43%.

In terms of charges from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM), there was a decrease by P 1.1021 per kWh due to lack of Yellow Alerts in the Luzon Area this month.

Cost of power from Independent Power Producers (IPPs) also decreased by P 0.1690 per kWh despite higher Malampaya natural gas prices as an outcome of recent movements of crude oil prices.

Transmission charge also decreased by P 0.0803 per kWh for residential customers due to lower NGCP Ancillary Service charges.

However, taxes and other charges went up by P 0.0228 per kWh this month.

Meralco’s distribution, supply, and metering charges have remained unchanged for 37 months after reductions in July 2015.
