Southeast Asia power industry is ambitious, robust

Doors of opportunities in the energy sector of the Philippines and Southeast Asia has opened as the Power Southeast Asia Conference and Exhibition (PSEA) 2017 gathered big power companies across Asia and the world.

International power companies in the likes of Shell, Osaka Gas, Nebras Power, APR Energy, Nynas, Reynolds International, and TUV SUD South Asia have met its top Philippine counterparts in the two-day conference.

Philippine companies that joined the PSEA 2017 are the Manila Electric Co. (Meralco), Aboitiz Power, PHINMA Energy, Pilipinas Shell, Solar Philippines.

Officials from the Department of Energy officials have graced the event to give the power companies a glimpse of the Philippines’ energy sector.

DOE Undersecretary Jesus Posadas said that the Philippines is preparing for the long-term growth and highly competitive economic structure.

“We hope, together with stakeholders, we hope to provide the country sustainable energy,” he said, adding that the country’s hydropower industry has developed gradually over the years.

Meanwhile, Laura Saguin, chief of the Natural Gas Management Division of the DOE, discussed the Philippines’ gas market continues to develop even with the Malampaya’s “successful” production.

“Downstream natural gas in the country is still considered a nascent and developing industry and also soon [they] will become an emerging LNG market in Asia,” she said.

“the Philippines has one of the most privatized energy sectors in the world, which foreign investors find attractive,” Michele Pani of the McKinsey and Company, a global research group, said.

Among the discussed new developments in the energy industry were Shell’s Gas-to-Liquid technology, predictive maintenance solution of the TUV SUD South Asia, Naphthenic oils of Nynas, Fuel-flexible mobile turbines of APR energy,

The 5th PSEA conference was organized by the Wispool Group, a Shanghai-based international events management that focuses on energy, utilities and petrochemical sectors across Asia.

PSEA 2017 was held on January 12 and 13, 2017 at the Solaire Resort and Casino in Manila.
