The SN Aboitiz Power Group (SNAP) has inaugurated its 8.5-megawatt (MW) Maris Main Canal Hydroelectric Power plant in Isabela.

Located in Brgy. Ambatali in Ramon, Isabela, it is the first hydro power plant constructed by the company since the acquisition of the 380-MW Magat hydroelectric power plant in 2007.

SN Aboitiz Power-Magat Inc. (SNAP-Magat) has invested P2.15 billion for the newly inaugurated power plant that took two years to build.

The plant consists of two Kaplan generator units with a nameplate capacity of 4.25 MW each. The units were commissioned on October 24 and November 6, 2017, respectively.

“Maris is special not only because it is the first power plant constructed by SNAP, this project is also especially meaningful because this project is wholly SNAP,” SNAP president and CEO Joseph Yu said during the ceremonial switch-on.

Maris hydro utilizes the water coming from Magat hydro that goes into the Maris re-regulating dam located downstream of Magat, before flowing into the Maris Main (South) Irrigation Canal.

Ramon, Isabela is also home of the 360 MW Magat hydro power plant which is located on the municipality’s border and Alfonso Lista, Ifugao.

SNAP is a joint venture of SN Power of Norway and Aboitiz Power Corp. It is also a proponent of the 390-MW Alimit Hydropower project, a multi-facility complex made of the 20-MW Olilicon hydropower plant, 120-MW Alimit hydropower plant and the 250-MW Alimit Pumped Storage.

This project is looking to combine the waters of the Alimit and Ibulao rivers to generate power. It requires a 42-km 230 KV transmission line.

SNAP also owns and operates the 105-MW Ambuklao hydro and the 140-MW Binga hydro in Benguet province.
