The 1.4-megawatt peak (MWp) solar facility of the Sabang Renewable Energy Corp. (SREC) in Puerto Princesa City is set be ready in May which will reportedly provide stable, reliable, and renewable energy for the economic development in Barangay Cabayugan.
SREC will operate the hybrid power plant, which is a combined solar panels and diesel engines, as well as the electricity distribution system located at Cabayugan, Puerto Princesa City.
“We are not merely installing four diesel engines and a 1.4-megawatt peak [MWp] solar-energy system. We’ve been building our own grid from the ground up, and erecting electrical poles and cables spanning 14 kilometers since April 2018,” SREC Chairman Emil Garcia was quoted in a BusinessMirror report.
The solar facility is seen to generate as much as 2.6MWp once it is done, which can power ten public buildings, 18 small businesses, 19 hotels and restaurants, and 583 households.
“By combining solar panels and diesel-fueled power generation, SREC will save the environment from over 25,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide while providing stable and reliable energy that will improve everyday living in Cabayugan,” Garcia told BusinessMirror reporters.
Sitio Sabang in Brgy. Cabayugan is still one of the several remote areas that have no electricity. Few still rely on generators that are harmful in the environment and can be expensive.
SREC intends to power Sitio Sabang reliable round the clock power by its hybrid mini-grid, with the most competitive rate.
