DOE: Star ratings in appliances will determine power consumption

Bill to End Electricity System Loss Charges filed in Congress

In the next few months, appliances will be stamped by a ‘star rating as a consumer guide for electric consumption.

The Department of Energy (DOE) has told the manufacturers to place a ‘star rating’ in appliances. An appliance with more stars means that it saves electricity more.

In a report by ABS-CBN, the DOE said that appliances with inverter technology, like refrigerators, washing machines, and air conditioners.

However, despite having inverter technology, the department has reminded the consumers to always ask for the energy efficiency ratio (EER) of the appliances to be bought.

An appliance with a higher EER would mean more savings in the electric bill, Engr. Isagani Soriano of DOE said.

Soriano added that Meralco has indicated consumption charges per appliance in their billing statements but still recommends using inverter types to ensure lowered consumption.
