Top Chinese, 3 other international firms want to build Alson’s 105MW plant to power up Zamboanga

Zamboanga City’s nagging electric problems may soon come to an end as five foreign firms have indicated string interest to build the San Ramon Power plant that will supply 105 MW of energy to the city.

Archimedes Donato, Project Manager of San Ramon Power, Inc. (SRPI), said that he was satisfied with the five firms with their wide and diverse experience internationally.

“The people of Zamboanga City and nearby areas can look forward to a state-of-the-art baseload power plant right here in the city to provide safe, reliable and affordable electricity,” Donato said.

The companies who are eyeing to bid for the SRPI project are Dongfang Electric International Corp.; Jurong Engineering Ltd.; Northeast No. 1 Electric Power Construction Co., Ltd. (NEPC 1); Shandong Electric Power Construction Co.; and ThyssenKrupp Industries India Pvt. Ltd.

Dongfang as based in Chengdu, China while NEPC 1 is a wholly owned subsidiary of China Energy Engineering Group; and Shandong is a unit of Power Construction Corporation of China.

Jurong is based in Singapore while Thyssenkrupp, a unit of Germany’s thyssenkrupp AG, is based in Pune, India.

Construction of the San Ramon Power plant will start in 2019 and operations will begin by 2022.

Once the project is complete, SRPI is expected to provide baseload power to Zamboanga City and neighboring areas, as well as stabilizing the power supply in Zamboanga.

Alson’s Vice President for project development Joseph Nocos said the group is committed to finish the project.

“These bid submissions are a testimony to the keen interest the SRPI project has generated and are a vote of confidence to the future of Zamboanga City,” he said.
