The Manila Electric Company (MERALCO) announced an overall increase in electricity rates to P 10.1803 per kWh this month, from November’s P 10.0901 per kWh.

A typical household consuming 200 kWh will have an increase of around P18 in the total bill.

An increase of P 0.0578 per kWh was recorded for this month, which makes the generation charge for December to P 5.3303 per kWh from last month’s P5.2725 per kWh.

The cost of power from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) decreased by P1.0268 per kWh due to an improvement in the Luzon power supply situation and lower power demand in November.

However, cost of power from power Supply Agreements (PSAs) snf Independent Power Producers (IPPs) went up due to lower average plant dispatch. P 0.5167 and P 0.1783 were the recorded increase respectively.

For transmission charge of residential customers, it slightly increased by P 0.0169 per kWh.

Meanwhile, Meralco introduced their online mobile application available through Play store and Apple store. It aims to provide a convenient way of paying customers’ electricity bills and to give consumers the option to go paperless with their electricity bills.
