Basic Energy Corporation projects that its 50-megawatt (MW) wind power development in Mabini, Batangas will be operational by early 2028.
In a report by Business World, Basic Energy president and chief operating officer Luisito V. Poblete confirmed that the wind power project is already underway, with its expected completion by the first quarter of 2028 and its construction expected to be around 2026.
The wind power project, which is set to cost between USD 80-85 million, will cover a substantial area of 4,860 hectares on the Mabini peninsula in Batangas, situated south of Metro Manila. Currently, the company is actively engaging in preliminary discussions with various funding institutions, including local banks, to secure financial support.
In recognition of its potential, the Department of Energy awarded a 25-year service contract to the company in 2021, encompassing a five-year pre-development phase, with the option to extend for an additional 25 years.
Basic Energy plans to wrap up its detailed feasibility study for the wind project by March 2025. The company has already completed a grid connection assessment and initiated the system impact study with the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines.
In April, Basic Energy formed a joint venture with Japanese renewable energy developer Renova, Inc. to further develop the wind energy project. Renova specializes in solar, wind, biomass, geothermal, and hydropower energy projects.
