The National Power Corp. (Napocor) granted a municipality in Palawan with a 160-kilowatt (kW) generating set which allows for a 24-hour electricity service that will boost the local economy and tourism.
Napocor president Ma. Gladys Sta. Rita said the municipality of Araceli will be generating electricity for 24 hours starting today through the Araceli Diesel Power Plant (DPP).
“Araceli is one of the 11 indigent island municipalities of Palawan and with a 24 hour power supply, we at Napocor wish to contribute in driving up its local economy through more businesses, tourists and jobs,” she said.
DPP provides for 700 households and commercial establishments in two barangays. It previously only had 12 hours of supply before Napocor extended it to 16 hours in November.
To date, only two of the 13 barangays in the island municipality have distribution lines through the Palawan Electric Cooperative (PALECO).
