AboitizPower, Bataan Government Launch PHP 10M Engineering Scholarship Fund for 200 Students

AboitizPower and the Provincial Government of Bataan have signed a five-year agreement to fund 200 engineering students at Bataan Peninsula State University and PUP-Mariveles through a PHP 10 million education initiative.

The collaboration was made official through a five-year Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed by both parties, which will see AboitizPower contribute an impressive total of PHP 10 million to an educational assistance fund. The fund will disburse PHP 2 million annually starting April 2025, supporting 200 students enrolled at Bataan Peninsula State University – Main Campus and the Polytechnic University of the Philippines – Mariveles.

The scholarship program is administered through AboitizPower’s private limited partnerships—GNPower Mariveles Energy Center (GMEC) and GNPower Dinginin (GNPD)—and forms part of the wider P.R.O.G.R.E.S.S. corporate social responsibility initiative, especially its “E” component: Elevate Educational Opportunities.

“We express our deepest gratitude to AboitizPower for their unwavering partnership with our Provincial Government,” said Bataan Governor Jose Enrique “Joet” Garcia, highlighting the role of education in creating a capable and progressive community.

The program builds upon past efforts. GMEC launched its first scholarship program in 2015, and GNPD joined in 2023. Collectively, the two entities have supported 206 scholars to date, with 50 already graduating. The latest agreement provides support to an additional 200 recipients, aiding in the province’s expanded “Iskolar ng Bayan” initiative.

“I’m particularly proud of what they’ve done in AboitizPower – North Luzon for supporting more than 200 scholars so far,” said AboitizPower Transition Business Group COO Celso Caballero. “But these aren’t just numbers on a page, these are stories of transformation.”

Among the many beneficiaries is Rainiel Salandanan, a student from Bataan Peninsula State University, who shared how the scholarship eased financial burdens in his single-parent household. “I no longer need to ask my parent for money, no longer having to worry about my other needs,” he said.

AboitizPower, one of the Philippines’ largest power producers, continues to pursue education-focused initiatives as part of its broader goal to contribute to national development. With over 50 facilities nationwide, the company maintains a balanced energy portfolio that includes both renewable and thermal power sources.
