Therma South, Inc. (TSI) and Therma Marine, Inc. (TMI) have committed a combined PHP 12 million to support health, education, disaster preparedness, and livelihood projects in their host communities—Davao City, Davao del Sur, Davao de Oro, and Agusan del Norte—AboitizPower reported on its website.
TSI, operator of the 300-megawatt circulating fluidized bed coal plant in Davao, allocated PHP 8 million for disaster response and education programs. In Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur, the funds will cover disaster risk reduction tools, equipment, and rescue training. The package also includes solar electrification for barangay offices in Inawayan and Binugao, Davao City.
TSI’s education partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) and TESDA provides scholarships for 20 high school students and 19 college scholars, with allowances of up to PHP 25,000 per semester.
“The impact of this project will be built for years to come, not only for this year but for the next generation. We are proud that our learners from Davao del Sur are part of it,” said Hazel Luna, DepEd District Supervisor of South Davao del Sur.
Meanwhile, TMI earmarked PHP 4 million for healthcare and outreach programs in Maco, Davao de Oro, and Nasipit, Agusan del Norte.
In Maco, PHP 1.8 million supports the Municipal Health Office’s physical therapy program with advanced rehabilitation equipment, including robot gloves, NMES units, and therapeutic ultrasound devices.
“Some of these equipment target specific aspects of physical therapy that are not usually met with the current facilities available at our regional health unit,” said Maco MHO OIC Liezl Andoy. “With AboitizPower’s donation, our massage therapists may be able to cater to more patients since the treatment of each may be potentially shortened.”
In Nasipit, PHP 2.2 million went to health, livelihood, and resilience projects, including a thermocoagulator for cervical cancer treatment at the town’s Regional Health Unit.
Agusan del Norte Governor Angel Amante welcomed the support, citing AboitizPower’s role in reviving investor confidence in the area.
TSI and TMI said the initiatives reflect AboitizPower’s commitment to deliver reliable power while advancing community development in its host areas.
