Ahunan Power Inc. has begun a large-scale reforestation push in Laguna, starting with the delivery of more than 2,500 saplings in Barangay Natividad, Pangil. The initiative lays the groundwork for a permanent nursery that will produce up to 200,000 seedlings each year.
The first batch of fruit-bearing and forest trees was delivered on August 22. A temporary nursery was set up onsite to prepare for upcoming planting activities under Ahunan’s community and environmental programs.
The project is being carried out with Prime Infra Foundation and Prime Terra, a nature-based solutions company under Prime Infra.
“Aligned with our commitment to protecting the environment, these initial saplings are part of a broader initiative to reforest areas across the country. Our reforestation efforts help sequester carbon, reduce emissions, and contribute to cleaner, healthier air for all Filipinos,” Prime Infra said.
The saplings will first undergo acclimatization before being planted in reforestation areas. Over time, Ahunan plans to ramp up production and expand coverage to support nationwide reforestation.
Ahunan stressed that the program is designed not only for carbon reduction but also for community engagement. Local farmers, people’s organizations, and other stakeholders will be involved in nursery operations and planting activities.
“This initiative also allows us to strengthen collaboration with the community by engaging people’s organizations, farmers, and other local stakeholders,” Ahunan, a wholly owned subsidiary of Prime Infra, said.
The effort is part of the Tayo Na Pakil program, launched in 2022 by Ahunan and Prime Infra Foundation. The program implements community-centered projects in Pakil, Laguna, alongside the 1,400 MW Pumped Storage Hydroelectric Power Project, which is expected to boost energy security while driving inclusive growth.
Ahunan’s latest effort reflects Prime Infra’s broader commitment to regeneration, sustainability, and long-term partnerships with host communities.
