Blueleaf Energy Philippines is redefining renewable energy development by investing not just in infrastructure but in communities. With over 1.5 gigawatts of renewable projects planned, the company’s mission extends beyond power generation but to sustainable community growth.

Chris Chua, Investment Director of Blueleaf Energy Philippines, emphasized the company’s community-centric approach: “We want to leave behind skills and systems—not just infrastructure.”

Blueleaf Energy Philippines, together with NKS Energy Utilities Inc., is developing NKS Solar One, a 250 MWp floating solar project in Lake Caliraya and Lake Lumot.

As part of its community initiatives, NKS Solar One partners with TESDA to provide NC2 certification training, equipping locals as certified solar panel installers. Chua stated, “We have started to train the locals there to handle the basic construction work needed for the project and operate when the time comes.”

Additionally, NKS Solar One supports fisherfolk families by partnering with local weaving cooperatives, enhancing livelihoods through pandan and water lily-based handicrafts. These products now reach broader markets, supplementing family incomes and promoting economic independence. “We train the Cavinti weavers on product development and marketing,” Chua shared. “It’s about making sure they have sustainable livelihoods long-term.”

Financial literacy training also forms part of NKS Solar One’s community initiatives, helping residents manage finances, budget efficiently, and invest wisely. Collaboration is central to Blueleaf’s strategy, forming Project Monitoring Teams with local governments, fisherfolk groups, and civic organizations to ensure environmental and social commitments remain priorities.

The NKS Solar One floating solar project exemplifies this approach. Early community concerns about impacts on fishing were addressed by adjusting project timelines and locations. Chua explained, “The main consideration was stakeholder management. We want our stakeholders to have buy-in.”

Blueleaf Energy Philippines’ environmentally conscious development adheres strictly to ecological preservation standards, keeping a minimal footprint and promoting long-term sustainability.

Through careful planning, community participation, and targeted skills development, Blueleaf Energy Phis. demonstrates that renewable energy can drive inclusive and sustainable growth.

Blueleaf Energy Philippines is a specialist onshore renewable energy business that develops and operates utility-scale solar projects. It is a portfolio company of Macquarie Capital, operating on a stand-alone basis.
