ACEN’s 54-megawatt (MW) Guimaras Wind project has received recognition from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for its support of reforestation and community development efforts in Guimaras province.
As announced on ACEN’s official Facebook page, the project was cited for its “hands-on partnership” with the DENR in advancing the agency’s Community-Based Forest Management Project and the National Greening Program (NGP).
Since its collaboration with the DENR began in 2022, Guimaras Wind has helped plant 26,982 mangroves and 18,396 trees across the province. ACEN said this initiative “reflects our commitment to protect natural ecosystems and sustain local communities.”
Located in San Lorenzo, Guimaras, the wind farm is the first in the Visayas region and has an installed capacity of 54 MW. It generates over 120 gigawatt-hours of electricity annually — enough to power more than over 48,000 households. According to ACEN, it also avoids 58,410 tonnes of CO2 equivalent (tCO2e) in emissions each year.
The Guimaras Wind project was built to meet rising electricity demand driven by infrastructure development and economic activity in the province.
