The Energy Department is seeking the opinion of industry stakeholders as they are now finalizing draft rules that will enable end-users to source their power supply from renewable energy (RE) technologies.
DOE has given interested groups the opportunity to send in their comments on the department circular “Prescribing the Guidelines Governing the Establishment of Green Energy Program.”
The final draft rules of the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP) is posted on DOE”s website. They have until September 4 to submit their comments.
“Should there be no inputs or comments received, the REMB-NREB-TSMD shall assume your concurrence with the draft Circular,” the DOE said.
The GEOP, one critical point of the Renewable Energy Act of 2008, gives end-users the power to choose RE sources as for their energy requirements.
Under the draft rules, consumers can ask their distribution utilities or electric cooperatives to provide them with renewable energy supply. Big power users, meanwhile, can contract directly with renewable energy generators or suppliers.
The National Grid Corp of the Philippines, together with DUs and ECS, the Philippine Electricity Market Corp. (PEMC), and other concerned parties are mandated to provide the mechanism for the connection and commercial arrangement needed under the GEOP.
