The Department of Energy (DOE) is welcoming the activation of the Dumanjug-Corella 230 kilovolt (kV) Line 1 and Dumanjug 70 megavolt amperes reactive (MVAR), officially forming a connection between Cebu and Bohol.
The Cebu-Bohol 230 kV Interconnection Project, boasting a 600 MW transfer capacity, will strengthen the Bohol Grid’s supply reliability by ensuring direct access to Cebu’s bulk generation sources, on top of the boost from the Leyte-Bohol submarine cable.
“Ensuring sufficient transmission capacity is crucial for the country’s economic development, as it promotes a reliable power supply that supports economic growth and investment,” said DOE Secretary Raphael P.M. Lotilla.
The project’s completion, scheduled for December 2024, is projected to alleviate bottlenecks in the Leyte-Bohol 138 kV interconnection, easing the increasing electricity rates plaguing the consumers of the area.
Earlier, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. inaugurated the Hermosa-San Jose Transmission Project, which will considerably boost the availability of power in the Luzon Grid with 5,080 MW from current power plants and 2,554 MW from committed power generation.
With a full transfer capacity of 8,000 MW, the Hermosa-San Jose Transmission Project can transmit around 7,634 MW of power from existing and committed plants in Bataan and Zambales to Metro Manila and other regions in Luzon.
The department’s roster of existing and committed power projects includes an additional 2,554 MW from 17 committed power generation projects slated to go online within the next three years.
These committed power projects are Mariveles Coal-Fired Power Plant Units 2 to 6, Masinloc Power Plant Units 4 and 5, Mariveles Hydroelectric Power Project, San Marcelino Solar Power Project, Subic New PV Solar Power Plant Project, and PAVI Green Orion Solar Power Plant Project.
Additionally, Palauig Solar Power Project, Samal Solar Power Project, Bataan-Zambales CW Wind Power Project, Hermosa Battery Energy Storage System, Subic Battery Energy Storage System and Phase 2 of the PCCP Limay Battery Energy Storage System Project are also part of the roster of committed power projects.
