First Gen’s EDC Provides Support to Students and Scholars in Ilocos Norte

Energy Development Corporation (EDC), a subsidiary of First Gen Corporation, is continuing its commitment to building a regenerative future by supporting education and youth development in Ilocos Norte.

In partnership with the Department of Education’s Brigada Eskwela program, EDC donated cleaning materials to 14 public schools to help create safe and well-maintained classrooms. Brigada Eskwela, rooted in the Filipino spirit of bayanihan, prepares schools for the new academic year by bringing together parents, teachers, civic groups, and private partners.

EDC also distributed school bags and raincoats to kindergarten up to Grade 3 students in 10 elementary schools in Burgos. The company said these small but essential items help children attend school more comfortably and safely, especially in remote areas.

EDC also invests in shaping future leaders through its SIKAT education program, which combines academic support with values-driven leadership training. Recently, nine SIKAT scholars from Burgos joined a three-day Solidarity Building and Leadership Camp. The program featured activities such as a visit to EDC’s Bac-Man Geothermal Project to learn about the country’s clean energy journey, a tree-growing activity at the BINHI nursery, and a tour of a bat sanctuary to highlight the importance of biodiversity.

According to EDC, these initiatives reflect its belief that education goes beyond books and classrooms, encompassing the development of character, values, and stewardship for the environment. By supporting schools, providing basic needs, and guiding scholars to become sustainability leaders, the company aims to strengthen communities and foster a future where both people and nature can thrive.
