Households given legal access to electricity through the partnership of the Department of Energy (DOE) and Manila Electric Co. (MERALCO) has reached the 18,000 mark in mid – October.

DOE said that 18, 026 households were energized in Gaya-Gaya, San Jose del Monte and other areas in Bulacan, Laguna and a few areas in Rizal, Happy Land Aroma, the Baseco Compound, Isla Putting Bato and Parola Area in Tondo, Manila from July 8 to October 14.

“I am committed to accomplishing the marching order of the President to provide our people the chance to enjoy a more comfortable quality of life through the delivery of safe, stable and reliable electricity services,” DOE Secretary Alfonso Cusi said.

This was done through the DOE-Meralco collaboration project Household Electrification Program, wherein the power distributor installs regular service and prepaid electricity service schemes in the target areas.

The DOE has set a goal to electrify 100 percent of the country’s households, including marginalized and informal settlers.

Last July, the Energy department met with Meralco officials to provide electricity services to poor communities within the power distributor’s franchise area.
