Laguna Wind Energy Corporation is calling on the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) to approve its proposed point-to-point limited transmission facility to connect the 100 MW Kalayaan 2 wind project in Laguna province directly to the Luzon grid.

In a report by Manila Standard, the firm said it looks to link its project to the San Juan 230-kilovolt (kV) substation of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) in preparation for its commercial operations scheduled for 2026. The facility is projected to be completed within 13 months from construction.

The estimated cost for the transmission line is around Php 382.78 million, whereas the development of the Kalayaan substation is expected to require an investment of Php 834.196 million.

The commercial operation of the project is dependent on whether the firm secures the preliminary approval to advance the undertaking, as linking it up to the substation is seen as a crucial aspect of its success.

The Kalayaan 1 wind power project will deploy 17 wind turbines, with its generated capacity being sold through the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market and bilateral supply agreements.
