Maibarara Geothermal cited by PEMC for reliability and compliance excellence

The 32-megawatt (MW) Maibarara Geothermal Power Plant (MGPP) in Batangas has been recognized by the Philippine Electricity Market Corporation (PEMC) as the Most Compliant Geothermal Power Plant during the 2025 Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) Compliance Officers Summit held in Clark, Pampanga on October 24.

Operated by Yuchengco-led Maibarara Geothermal Inc. (MGI), the plant earned the award for its performance during the 2024 compliance period under three key metrics—offered capacity, dispatch conformance, and adherence to regulatory requirements.

PEMC cited MGPP for consistently maintaining high plant capacity and availability factors, allowing it to deliver its registered output with precision and reliability. The plant also achieved strong dispatch accuracy, keeping its actual generation within the prescribed deviation threshold relative to its nominated capacity.

MGI WESM Compliance Officer Dave P. Gadiano said the award reflects the company’s operational discipline and strong commitment to compliance. “This award results from the tireless efforts our MGI operations and asset management personnel spend on ensuring high reliability of our geothermal facilities, combined with our compliance team’s diligent monitoring and observance of power dispatch protocols,” Gadiano said.

The recognition reinforces Maibarara Geothermal’s position as one of the country’s most reliable renewable energy plants in the WESM. Its operational performance supports grid stability while ensuring efficient and predictable power delivery from geothermal sources.

MGPP has been supplying clean, baseload power to the Luzon grid since 2014. The facility is operated by MGI, a joint venture of PetroGreen Energy Corporation (PGEC), ACEN Corporation, and PNOC Renewables Corporation.

What practices can help ensure power plants meet WESM standards while maintaining high efficiency?
