The Manila Electric Company (MERALCO) said that it continuously takes steps to restore power in regions impacted by Typhoon Carina.

MERALCO, as of 9:00 AM on Wednesday, around 23,000 customers in the areas of Metro Manila, Cavite, Rizal, and portions of Laguna, Batangas, Bulacan, and Quezon have been affected by service interruptions due to the typhoon.

“We are also closely monitoring the flooded areas. Our teams will immediately be deployed to restore power service once floods subside in the affected areas,” said MERALCO Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Joe Zaldarriaga.

The distribution utility provider said that power disruptions were caused by flooding in the impacted locations.

With this, MERALCO advised its consumers to check if the main electrical power switch or circuit breaker is off and dry when checking any electrical facility as well as electrical wires, connectors, wiring devices, and accessories.

Additionally, appliances should be unplugged and any connected equipment should be turned off. Rubber gloves and rubber-soled shoes should be utilized for wiping mud and filth from service equipment or the main circuit breaker/fuse enclosure.

MERALCO further advised residents not to switch on flood-damaged electrical appliances until all electrical lines have been checked by a certified electrician.

“We urge everyone to prioritize safety and take necessary precautions during this time,” Zaldarriaga added.
