Meralco halts “site activities”

Power generation arm of the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has temporarily paused “site activities” on the different projects it has been developing, including its solar installation in Bulacan province.

Among other projects that were affected were the proposed coal-fired power plant of Atimonan One Energy, Inc. (A1E) in Quezon province; and the Power Source First Bulacan Solar Inc. in San Miguel, Bulacan, according to a report.

The site activities were suspended on March 18, particularly the two power plant ventures.

Meanwhile, San Buenaventura Power Ltd. Co. (SBPL) which generates 500 MW in Mauban, Quezon enforced a skeleton workforce.

MGen President and Chief Executive Officer Rogelio L. Singson noted that it recognizes the seriousness of the threat of the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

“We at MGen put utmost importance to the health and safety of all our employees, partners and stakeholders.”

In addition. the power firm and its subsidiaries  “banned all non-essential travels to and from the power plant sites in Bulacan and Quezon.”

“We acknowledge the challenge we are facing now, and we are committed to support the government and the private sector in fighting this pan¬demic,” Singson said.

Meralco also assured that it has a business continuity plan (BCP) and other safety key measures to guarantee a continuous service.
