Meralco, OMF bring electricity to 179 Manila households ahead of Christmas

Manila residents in four barangays are set to enjoy safe and reliable electricity this Christmas, thanks to the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) and its corporate social responsibility arm, One Meralco Foundation (OMF).

The initiative, part of OMF’s Household Electrification Program (HEP), energized 179 low-income households in Barangay 581, Barangays 254 and 107, and Barangay 649 Baseco Compound (Port Area). Before this, residents relied on neighbors’ connections through submetering.

“This electrification program is more than just installing power lines. It is about improving the quality of life of our residents. By energizing our barangays, we are empowering families and building a brighter future for our community,” said Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso, represented at the event by Manila City Administrator Atty. Eduardo P. Quintos XIV.

The program, executed in partnership with Meralco’s España-Tutuban and Malate Business Centers, along with the Manila Sector and the City Government, aims to provide safer, legal, and more affordable electricity while enabling greater productivity among households.

“Meralco and One Meralco Foundation will continue working closely with local government units to bring light and opportunity to more Filipinos,” Meralco Senior Vice President, Chief Revenue Officer and OMF Trustee Ferdinand O. Geluz said. “For us in Meralco, HEP is an investment for the future. Beyond providing electricity, it is about strengthening families, empowering communities, and supporting inclusive sustainable development and nation-building.”

OMF President Jeffrey O. Tarayao added: “The spirit of bayanihan and our commitment to partnership with the national and local governments have brought not only light but also opportunities to these families in Manila this Christmas season.”

The initiative is part of Meralco and OMF’s broader social development goals, which include community electrification, energy education, environmental sustainability, youth development, and disaster response.
