The Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) announced a slight increase for November’s electricity rates, from last month’s P9.9766 per kWh to this month’s P10.0901 per kWh.

A typical household consuming 200 kWh will have an upward adjustment to their bill by around P23.

Generation charge went up to P5.2725 per kWh from last month’s P5.1908 per kWh, an increase of P0.0817 per kWh.

The increase in generation charge was mainly due to the increase in charges from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) by P1.3545 per kWh. Due to rising energy demand in Luzon, WESM charges went up.

However, prices of energy from Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and Power Supply Agreements (PSAs) went down by P0.1450 per kWh and P0.5611 per kWh respectively.

In terms of transmission charge of residential customers, it went up by P0.0021 per kWh due to an increase in National Grid Corporation of the Philippines’ (NGCP) ancillary service charges.

Taxes and other charges also increased by P0.0297 per kWh this month.

Meanwhile, Meralco’s distribution, supply, and metering charges remained unchanged for 40 months, after these registered reductions in July 2015.
