The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has announced a downward adjustment of P0.1068 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), which will reflect a decrease of around P21 in the total bill.

A typical household consuming 200 kWh will mean a decrease to P9.9850 per kWh this July, from last month’s P10.0918 per kWh. The downward movement of electricity prices since May shows an overall decrease of around P0.57 per kWh.

The overall rates reduction was mainly due to lower transmission charge for residential customers, with a decrease by P0.0788 per kWh.

Meanwhile, generation charge slightly increased to P5.4277 per kWh due to higher charges from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM).

WESM charges went up by P1.8794 per kWh because of tight supply conditions in the Luzon grid. The same goes with the cost of power from Power Supply Agreements, with a slight increase of P0.0414 per kWh.

However, Independent Power Producers’ cost of power lowered by P0.2239 per kWh mainly due to Peso appreciation.
