MGEN scores major global honors for solar and ESG leadership

MGEN Renewable Energy, Inc., the renewable arm of Meralco PowerGen Corporation (MGEN), has announced that it won six major awards across three international award bodies, highlighting the company’s accelerating pipeline of utility-scale renewable projects.

The company was recognized across the Asian Power Awards, IJGlobal ESG Awards, and Asia-Pacific Stevie® Awards in recognition of its growing presence in the region’s utility-scale renewable energy space.

At the 2025 Asian Power Awards, MGEN Renewables won Power Plant Upgrade of the Year – Philippines for the expansion of the Baras Solar project in Rizal. The facility now operates at 80.1 MWac of net sellable capacity and remains the province’s first and only solar farm. Its construction supported 1,600 jobs, including more than 300 women, reflecting an emphasis on inclusive local development.

MGEN’s flagship MTerra Solar project, currently being developed in Bulacan and Nueva Ecija, was named ESG Developer of the Year – Asia Pacific at the IJGlobal ESG Awards 2025, recognizing the project’s integrated sustainability measures and its social development programs in host communities.

MTerra Solar also took home three awards at the Asia-Pacific Stevie® Awards:

  • Gold Stevie® – Innovation in Energy & Sustainability
  • Gold Stevie® – Sustainability & Climate Protection Services
  • Bronze Stevie® – Sustainable Business Models

Billed to become the world’s largest integrated solar and battery energy storage complex once completed, MTerra Solar aims to supply clean electricity to 2.4 million households annually and avoid 4.3 million tons of carbon emissions per year.

Meanwhile, BulacanSol, MGEN’s 55-MW solar project in San Miguel, Bulacan, earned a Bronze Stevie® for its role in advancing Meralco’s coal phase-out pathway under the company’s long-term sustainability strategy.

“These recognitions reflect the hard work of our teams and partners, and more importantly, the impact our projects are making in the host communities,”  MGEN Renewables President and CEO Dennis B. Jordan said. “ As we continue building a more sustainable energy future, we remain focused on pushing forward responsible and community-centered renewable energy projects – all to power a better tomorrow.”

The series of recognitions comes as MGEN accelerates development toward its 1,500-MW renewable energy target by 2030, aligned with national goals to increase the country’s renewable share to 35% by 2030 and 50% by 2040.
