MGEN’s Manny Rubio Named CEO of the Year at 2025 Asian Power Awards

Meralco PowerGen Corporation (MGEN) cemented its regional leadership in power generation at the 2025 Asian Power Awards, with MGEN President and CEO Emmanuel V. Rubio named CEO of the Year and MGEN Renewables’ Baras Solar project in Rizal winning Power Plant Upgrade of the Year – Philippines.

Under Rubio’s leadership, MGEN has expanded its energy portfolio, including the MTerra Solar project, set to become the world’s largest integrated solar PV and battery storage facility, and the country’s first integrated LNG complex in Batangas. The company is on track to exceed its renewable energy capacity target of 1,500 MW by 2027, three years ahead of schedule, and aims to more than double its net sellable capacity to 10,357 MW by 2030.

The Baras Solar project, now operating at 80.1 MWac, is the first and only solar farm in Rizal province. The expansion employed over 1,600 workers, including more than 300 women, while contributing to the Department of Energy’s renewable energy targets of 35% by 2030 and 50% by 2040.

In Singapore, MGEN’s subsidiary PacificLight Power (PLP) was honored with Fast-Track Power Plant of the Year (Gold) and Power Plant Upgrade of the Year – Singapore, highlighting its role in enhancing regional energy efficiency and grid resilience.

“These recognitions reaffirm our growing impact and leadership as we drive the Philippines’ transition toward a more sustainable and inclusive energy future,” Rubio said.
