The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) says that transmission charges for electricity this month will see a slight reduction due to lower ancillary service (AS) costs.

In a report by Philippine Star, NGCP’s business and regulatory development chief Julius Ryan Datingaling said the overall transmission rate for the November supply period dropped to Php 1.1966 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), a 7.44% decrease from the Php 1.2928 per kWh recorded in October.

Transmission costs are fees charged to consumers for transporting electricity from power generation plants to distribution networks.

The decrease in transmission charges was mainly attributed to the 12.84% drop in AS rates, which declined to Php 0.5699 per kWh in November from Php 0.6539 per kWh in the previous month, Datingaling explained.

Additionally, transmission wheeling rates, which represent the NGCP’s charges for delivering electricity, also slightly decreased by 0.96%, settling at Php 0.4957 per kWh in November compared to October’s Php 0.5005 per kWh.

NGCP spokesperson Cynthia Alabanza clarified that transmission charges account for only about 3% of consumers’ monthly electricity bills, while the bulk comes from generation costs.
