Petron plants 1,000 mangroves in Davao del Sur for Environment Month

In celebration of Environment Month, Petron Corporation organized a mangrove planting activity in Barangay Aplaya, Hagonoy, Davao del Sur. This reinforces their commitment to environmental conservation and community engagement.

The activity gathered around 60 volunteers from Petron’s Davao Terminal, the Hagonoy Local Government, Hagonoy National High School, the Philippine Coast Guard, and the Mangrove Ecopark Fisherfolk Association (MEFA). United with the same goal, they planted approximately 1,000 Avicennia species propagules which are contributing to the rehabilitation of the local mangrove ecosystem.

The event was conducted under Petron’s Puno ng Buhay program, a nationwide reforestation initiative led by the company and its social arm, Petron Foundation, Inc. (PFI). Since its launch, the program has adopted around 55 hectares of mangrove areas across the country for reforestation, forming a pivotal part of Petron’s broader sustainability strategy.

Before the planting activity, PFI Project Officer Dino Pestano delivered a message on behalf of the foundation during a brief program. He encouraged participants to continue taking part in efforts that promote environmental stewardship.

Petron Davao Terminal Manager Nathan Asoque also received a Certificate of Recognition from the Hagonoy local government for the terminal’s ongoing reforestation efforts. In his remarks, Asoque reaffirmed the company’s commitment to working with local stakeholders in restoring vital coastal habitats.

The mangrove planting is one of several activities lined up by Petron this June as part of its Environment Month celebration. The initiative not only supports biodiversity conservation but also provides natural coastal protection and livelihood benefits to surrounding communities.
