Electric cooperatives in the Negros Occidental province are moving to increase their power rates, with Negros Occidental Electric Cooperative (Noceco) increasing its charges by P 0.0533 per kilowatt hour (kWh).
According to Noceco General Manager Jonas Discaya, last month’s P11.1952 per kWh rate will increase to P11.2485 per kWh this July.
The increase is mainly due to higher cost of energy from the Wholesale Energy Spot Market (WESM) where the company obtains the portion of its power supply.
Aside from other factors like higher transmission, universal charges, and value-added tax, Noceco also obtained an increase through additional feed-in tariff allowance (FIT-All).
“Consumers are urged to reduce their electricity consumption in order to avoid incurring higher bills. They are advised to only use their appliances when needed,” he said in a report by Sunstar.
Noceco, which caters to consumers from Pulupandan to Hinoba-an, has noted an increase of P0.16 per kWh in June.
The power rate in May was P11.0306 per kWh.
The Northern Negros Electric Cooperative (Noneco) is also projecting a “minimal” increase in its power rate this month due to the same reasons as Noceco. Noneco caters to consumers from E.B. Magalona to San Carlos City.
From P11.6564 per kWh in May, power rates reached to P11.7876 per kWh in June, with the implemented increase of P0.13 per kWh.
Adding to its increase is the transmission charge which has an increase of P0.0866 per kWh.
Central Negros Cooperative (Ceneco) which caters to the remaining portion of province, has yet to announce its power rate for July. The power company logged an increase by P0.52 per kWh last month.
