Raslag Launches Agrivoltaic Farming Initiative to Merge Clean Energy with Sustainable Agriculture

In a move that bridges renewable energy to sustainable farming, Raslag officially launched its Agrivoltaic Farming Initiative on June 5, 2025, at the Raslag 4 Solar Power Farm. The project introduces agrivoltaics, which is the practice of growing crops alongside solar panels, as a new model for dual land use that benefits both energy generation and agricultural production.

In a Facebook post, Raslag said the initiative not only highlights the innovation behind agrivoltaics, but also reinforces the company’s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The approach allows crops to grow under and between solar panel arrays. This allows the crop to take advantage of partial shading, reduced soil temperature, and improved moisture retention. According to Raslag, scientific studies have shown this setup can increase crop yields while also enhancing the efficiency of solar power systems.

“This initiative reflects our support for the Department of Energy’s push for a greener Philippines,” the company said, noting its alignment with key national energy policies such as the Philippine Energy Plan (PEP) and the National Renewable Energy Program (NREP).

Beyond national goals, the project also supports several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including those related to clean energy, food security, and building resilient communities. Raslag emphasized that the project promotes land-use efficiency while contributing to a low-carbon future.

The company credited the successful launch to the dedication of the Raslag 4 team and expressed hope that the program could be expanded and replicated across many other sites. Raslag aims to collaborate with other solar developers, farmers, and local government units (LGUs) interested in adopting agrivoltaics as part of their sustainability agenda.

“We’re not just generating clean energy — we’re cultivating a future where power and purpose grow together,” the company stated in its official announcement.

The Agrivoltaic Farming Initiative is expected to serve as a model for integrating solar infrastructure with agricultural productivity, potentially transforming how land is used in renewable energy development across the entire country.
