RE INVESTMENTS, PATOK SA PINAS: PH partners with Germany to advance RE

renewable

The Department of Energy (DOE) partnered with a German firm to further develop the renewable energy use in the country for more sustainable and cleaner power.

Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ) has funded a three-year project called Shaping and Implementing the International Climate Regime or SupportCCC II, which began since 2015 and peaked on Wednesday.

GIZ has played an important role in terms of developing and utilizing renewable energy in the Philippines, Energy Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi said.

“For three consecutive years, the Philippines ranked first among 125 countries in terms of energy environmental sustainability. This couldn’t have been achieved without the strong collaboration among the different Philippine government agencies, as well as technical and funding support from our international partners, like GIZ,” Cusi said.

The DOE highlighted the benefits the Philippines reaped from the partnership with GIZ including the management of the increase in the amount of variable renewable energy and adaptation of power planning, facilitating capacity building for energy stakeholders.

The partnership also opens opportunity to assess the state’s power planning process, policy review on Feed-in-Tariff, net-metering for renewable energy, and cost-benefit analysis of the energy sector through the renewable energy country diagnostic tool, as well as the analysis of the Negros solar situation.

SupportCCC II is a project succeeding the Support to the Climate Change Commission in implementing the National Climate Change Action Plan, which was also done by GIZ.
