South Korean Firm acquires operations contract for Malaya Thermal Power Plant

Malaya Thermal Plant can be privatized this year – DOE

STX Marine Service has won the contract to operate and maintain the Rizal-based 650 – megawatt (MW) Malaya Thermal Power Plant.

The contract was awarded by the Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management (PSALM) Corp. and it will run from August 25, 2017, to August 25, 2018.

Under the contract, STX will be responsible for the day-to-day- upkeep, management, as well as maintenance or repair of the power plant.

The South Korean firm has won the operation and maintenance contract since 2014.

The Malaya plant is a 300 MW unit that contains a once-through type boiler and a 350 MA unit fitted with a conventional boiler.

The plant is assigned as a must-run-unit by the energy department that will supply power come deficiency when power plants connected to the grid is unavailable.

Malaya will continue to operate as an MRU until its privatization takes place.
