SP New Energy Corp. (SPNEC) has entered into a partnership with China Energy Engineering Group Co., Ltd. (Energy China) to develop a significant portion of its solar farm in Central Luzon.

In a report by Inquirer, SPNEC announced that its subsidiary, Terra Solar Philippines, Inc. (TSPI), has completed the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) agreement with Energy China for a section of the solar farm. This section will also house the project’s energy storage system.

The Terra Solar project, which is valued at P200 billion, is located in Nueva Ecija and Bulacan. It is being led by SPNEC through its subsidiary TSPI and serves as the renewable energy arm of MERALCO PowerGen Corp.

Energy China operates in over 140 countries and has led major projects, including the Three Gorges Dam and the West-East Power Transmission Project.

Under the terms of the agreement, Energy China and its affiliates will be responsible for the procurement, design, engineering, permitting, manufacturing, testing, logistics, and onsite delivery of components. The contract also includes warranty services and the implementation of maintenance protocols to address any operational issues.

Additionally, Energy China will integrate the Terra Solar project into the national power grid, ensuring a smooth and efficient connection. MERALCO PowerGen Corp. president and CEO Manny V. Rubio explained that the collaboration aims to accelerate the Philippines’ energy transition and promote a more sustainable future.

The first phase of the Terra Solar project, with a capacity of 2,500 megawatts (MW), is slated for completion by 2026. The second phase, which will add an additional 1,000 MW, is expected to be completed by 2027.
