SP New Energy Corporation (SPNEC) reports that the development of its 500-megawatt (MW) Sta. Rosa Nueva Ecija 2 Solar Power Project (NE 2) has been hampered by difficulties in securing right-of-way access and addressing grid connection problems.
In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE), the firm said that although Phase 1A of the NE 2 Project has been completed with 50 MW of installed capacity, operational progress is hindered by right-of-way disputes, delaying the construction of the necessary connection assets.
Meanwhile, pre-construction and development activities for the remaining portions of the NE 2 project have made substantial progress, but actual construction has yet to begin due to ongoing grid limitations.
The project’s first stage, a 225 MW solar facility in Barangay Las Piñas, Peñaranda, will be developed in two segments: 50 MW for Phase 1A and 175 MW for Phase 1B. Plans are also in place for a second phase, which will bring an additional 275 MW of renewable energy capacity.
According to the firm, Phase 1A is slated to kick off commercial operations in the fourth quarter of 2025.
“Subject to the resolution on the right of way issues and the completion of the line connecting the plant to the transmission grid, Phase 1A is expected to achieve commercial operations sometime Q4 of 2025,” said SPNEC.
The initial plan was to get Phase 1A up and running by mid-2024, with Phase 1B following and expected to be fully operational by late 2025.
