VECO wants more customers enrolled in Net Metering Program

Customers of the Visayan Electric Company (VECO) who have solar installations are encouraged to enroll in its Net Metering program.

“We are encouraging those who already have solar technology in their homes to enroll in the VECO Net Metering Program. This way we can install the correct metering system and they get to earn more from selling the excess power generated from their system,” VECO chief operating officer Anton Mari Perdices said.

Customers with 100 kilowatts (kW) or below worth solar facilities are eligible to enroll in the net metering program.

The program allows customers of distribution utilities (DUs) to install an on-grid RE facility of not more than 100 kW, and power not consumed will be exported to the DU’s distribution system.

A peso credit is given to the customers in exchange for the power received, and these are deducted to the customer’s electricity bill.

The net metering program is the first policy mechanism under the Renewable Energy Act of 2008.

Currently, there are 48 accounts enrolled under VECO’s net metering system with the capacity of 364 kW. Among the total, 15 households have registered in the program.

VECO is owned by the Aboitiz Power Corp. and the Vivant Corp and is distributing to over 400,000 customers in the cities of Cebu, Mandaue, Talisay, Naga and four municipalities of Metro Cebu.
