For the fifth consecutive month, the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has announced a downward adjustment of P0.5260 per kWh for the month of September. The decrease represents a total downward adjustment of around P1.52 per kWh since April this year.

This shows a decrease of around P105 in the total bill of a typical household consuming 200 kWh.

Overall electricity rates for a typical household consuming 200 kWh decreased to P9.0414 per kWh for this month from August’s P9.5674 per kWh.

Generation charge and Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) prices also went down to P4.5191 per kWh and P3.6503 per kWh respectively.

The WESM decrease was mainly due to improved supply conditions in the Luzon grid.

The price of electricity supply from Power Supply Agreements (PSAs) was also reduced bt P0.1522 per kWh due to lower fuel prices.

However, the cost of power from the Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and transmission charge increased by P0.4844 per kWh and P0.0056 per kWh respectively.

Meanwhile, power consumers of Meralco will experience a power interruption in selected areas in Luzon for this week due to their scheduled maintenance.
