Thirteen power companies have been shortlisted for the government’s third green energy auction round (GEA-3), signaling growing industry interest in advancing renewable energy.
The Department of Energy (DOE) announced on January 28 that these firms are now eligible to proceed with the auction next month, where contracts for hydropower and geothermal energy projects totaling 4,650 megawatts (MW) will be up for grabs.
These companies have until February 5 to submit proof of their bid bond. The auction itself is scheduled for February 11, with notices of award targeted as early as May and certificates of award expected between June 6 and July 4.
Among the qualified bidders are Energy Development Corporation, Bac-Man Geothermal Inc., and First Gen Hydro Power Corporation, along with Ahunan Power Inc. and Olympia Violago Water and Power Inc.
Meanwhile, San Roque Hydropower Inc., Maibarara Geothermal Inc., and Repower Energy Development Corporation are also on the list.
Completing the lineup are Pan Pacific Renewable Power Phils. Corporation, Pulangi Hydro Power Corporation, United Hydro Power Builders Corporation, and COHECO Badeo Corporation
The Green Energy Auction (GEA) program is a cornerstone of the government’s strategy to boost renewable energy capacity and achieve a 35% share of renewables in the national energy mix by 2030. The program provides opportunities for energy developers to secure contracts that help expand sustainable energy production.
