Around 163 infrastructure projects have been postponed due to the enforced community quarantine (ECQ) in Cebu.

Only 70 projects were allowed to continue as of early April despite the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic according to the official data presented by Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 7 Director Edgar Tabacon.

The DPWH projects in Cebu are worth P10.96 billion in 2020, which is part of the P24.39 billion worth of infrastructure projects in Central Visayas.

The DPWH projects have a total number of 941, of which 523 are in Cebu and out of this 384 projects were suspended. Several projects have yet to start.

Only 50 projects were completed in the Central Visayas region, 36 of which are in Cebu.

However, the DPWH did not specify the projects that were postponed due to the current health crisis.

DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said the department has been preparing guidelines for the continuation of the big-ticket infrastructure projects after ECQ has been lifted.

Around P30 billion from the “Build Build Build” infrastructure project were realigned to address the pandemic.
