P5.6 billion has been allotted for national electrification projects, according to the proposed national budget for 2017.
Data from the Department of Budget and Management showed the National Power Corp. (Napocor) will receive P2.8 billion for the installation of transmission lines in off-grid areas. The budget also covers maintenance costs of generating assets.
The National Electrification Administration will receive P1.8 billion covering the electrification projects of sitios and households.
P1 billion will go to the Department of Energy for its own electrification projects that will benefit almost 200, 000 households off- and on-grid areas.
DOE secretary previously said that the current administration is aiming for 100 percent household electrification in the whole country by the end of President Rodrigo Duterte’s term.
Mindanao currently has the lowest electrification rate at 72 percent, while Luzon has 90 percent and Visayas is at 92 percent.
