Eight new renewable energy projects were endorsed by the Department of Energy (DOE) to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) to conduct a system impact study (SIS) in June.
The RE projects endorsed for SIS include Energy Development Corporation’s (EDC) 60 megawatts (MW) Burgos 1, and 120 MW Burgos 2 Wind Power Project under EDC Bayog Burgos Wind Power Corporation in Burgos. Ilocos Norte.
Domhain Earth Corp.’s 1400 MW Calatagan Offshore Wind Farm in offshore Batangas and Occidental Mindoro, and the 1600 MW Claveria Offshore Wind Farm in offshore Cagayan and Ilocos Norte were also endorsed for SIS.
For solar, DOE endorsed the 52.50 MWAC Pililia Solar Project in Brgy. Halayhayin in Pililia, Rizal owned by Metro Solar Power Solutions, Inc., and the 140.917 MWAC Infanta 1 Solar Power Project in Brgy. Atel-Batang in Infanta, Pangasinan owned by Tera Renewables 3 Inc.
Two hydropower projects were also endorsed for SIS. These are JBD Water Power Inc.’s 49 MW Saltan D River Hydroelectric Power Project, and 45 MW Saltan River Site E Hydroelectric Power Project located in the towns of Balbalan and Pinukpuk in Kalinga Province.
Meanwhile, SMC Global Power Holdings Corp.’s subsidiary, San Miguel Electric Corp,’s 875.4 MW Navotas Combined Cycle Gas Turbine in Navotas is the lone gas-fired power plant endorsed for SIS. The project includes a complimentary battery energy storage system.
For the month of June, nine power projects were endorsed in total. Overall, 60 projects have been endorsed for SIS since the beginning of the year.
An SIS is an engineering study that evaluates the impact of a proposed interconnection or transmission service request on the safety and reliability of a transmission system.
