Six wind power projects of the Energy Development Corporation (EDC) have been given clearance by the Department of Energy (DOE) to conduct a system impact study (SIS)
In a document released by the DOE, the six projects have a combined capacity of 2,680 megawatts (MW), which took bulk of the 11 projects endorsed to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) for SIS.
The EDC’s biggest project endorsed in December is the 996-megawatt in Iloilo-Guimaras offshore wind project.
Other EDC projects endorsed include the 100 MWac Guimaras onshore wind project, the 768 MW Guimaras-Negtos Occidental Offshore Wind power project, the 582 MW Guimaras 1 Offshore wind power project, the 90 MWac Pasuquin Wind Power project, and the 144 MWac Ilocos Norte wind power projects.
Meanwhile, the other projects endorsed or system impact study is Upgrade Energy Philippines Inc.’s 43.75 MWac Cabangan Solar Projects, Orion Pacific Prime Energy Inc.’s 1200 MW Quezon combined-cycle power plant, 3 Barracuda Energy Corp.’s 530 MWac Bugallon solar power project, and Iloilo 1 Renewable Energy Corporation’s 52 MW wind power project.
The Philippines looks to attain a 35% renewable energy share in its energy mix by 2030, and 50% by 2040.
