Executive leaders in Cebu are relying on the introduction of new power plants to provide additional supply to meet the province’s increasing demand.
In a report by Manila Standard, the Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) upcoming President Mark Ynoc said that to assist economic recovery efforts, a sufficient power supply is crucial.
Ynoc added that Cebu is a central figure in the growth of the country, playing important roles in various industries, from tourism to manufacturing. With the arrival of investments, stable electricity is important, as power disturbances wreak unthinkable harm to the economy.
Electricity also played a crucial role in attracting foreign direct investors to the province. Recognizing Cebu’s potential, the National Economic Development Authority identified the province’s capacity to accommodate investments in various industries, including automotive, aerospace, shipbuilding, and allied sectors.
The endorsement of 21 projects for system impact studies by the Department of Energy (DOE) reflected a positive outlook in the energy sector. Among these projects is the expansion of Therma Visayas Inc.’s coal plant in Toledo City, contributing 169 MW to the province’s power capacity.
